The NIHR Pre-doctoral Clinical and Practitioner Academic Fellowship

We are proud to be a partner with the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) to support pharmacy applications to round 5 of the Pre-Doctoral Clinical & Practitioner Academic Fellowship (PCAF). This partnership marks the second year where we are supporting professionals registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), who wish to apply to the PCAF and develop research skills to access funding at the doctoral level.

Early career researchers who are committed to a practitioner academic career are encouraged to apply to this scheme, as it presents a great opportunity to undertake a programme of training, either full-time or part-time, with funds provided to cover the commitment to this training. We strongly encourage any pharmacist or pharmacy professional registered with the GPhC investigating pharmacy-related research to apply if they wish to further develop their skills at the pre-doctoral level.

You can select to apply to the Pharmacy Research UK partnership on the main PCAF application form. Doing this means that representatives from Pharmacy Research UK will be able to support the NIHR in reviewing the initial applications to confirm suitability for processing. Applications will be reviewed by the main NIHR panel as part of their usual PCAF process following the initial scoping review.

Further details about this scheme are available on the NIHR website (link below). We are proud that pharmacists have already been funded through this scheme and we are committed to ensuring that more pharmacists have the opportunity to develop key research skills to suit them in their clinical academic careers.
