Pharmacists working in community pharmacy and primary care are ideally placed to be professional advocates for public health on the front line of healthcare. Pharmacist’s expert knowledge and skills, as well convenient accessibility for the public enable them to support the public by promoting healthy lifestyles, preventing long term illness and guide patients to better manage their medicines.
Pharmacy Research UK supports research seeking to investigate the efficacy and cost effectiveness of pharmacy services relating to public health as well as the knowledge and public awareness of pharmacy as a provider of public health interventions. The charity also seeks to support research into the role of pharmacists in early detection and raising the awareness of disease (e.g. cancer) and how pharmacists can address health inequalities.
