It would be my aim to explore and increase understanding of the pharmaceutical care needs of patients in the community with recognised incapacity and as a result, identify how pharmacists can support their formal and informal carers with medication related issues.

The research questions will focus on the perspective of formal and informal carers, care managers/co-ordinators, GPs and pharmacists linked to person with incapacty.

  • What are the conditions treated and drugs prescribed?
  • What challenges do they face when managing these conditions and prescribing/administering these medicines?
  • What are their attitudes, beliefs, expectations and experiences relating to this person’s pharmaceutical care?

This project ran from September 2014 to September 2019.
