I wish to undertake a small scale project which will review the patient centred approach to pharmacy practice with a focus on using health coaching methods. This will form the major part of a PhD by prior publication/portfolio which is a method of doctoral study for people who have not followed the traditional academic route towards a PhD and is particularly suitable for practice-based pharmacists.
While there is no compulsory element of taught study, I will undertake this project as part of the programme requirement of two elements for the submission to be completed:
1. A submission of published work which relates to my chosen theme, which will include academic papers, book chapters, reports and other creative work in the relevant area
2. Preparation and submission of a small project to create an introductory section of the work. This is required to be about 10,000 words in length and set the work in the context of the literature, demonstrates coherence of the publications and evidence of research skills including a section on research methodology.
In addition to this, I will be undertaking taught modules for research methodology to the programme of study.
An oral examination is required after submission to demonstrate that I have both critically investigated my area of research within the project and that I have made an independent and original contribution to knowledge.
This project ran from October 2016 to October 2017.
