Apply now for the RPS Pharmacy Practice Research Award
Applications or nominations can now be made for the Pharmacy Practice Research Award at the 2013 Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) Conference supported by Pharmacy Research UK.
Typically, applicants should be at the mid-point of their career such as, Senior Lecturer or Senior Research Fellow. The winner will receive a cheque for £1,000 and be invited to deliver a 30 minute lecture at the Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s Conference 2013 based primarily on the recipient’s own research but drawn on relevant published work from related fields including health policy. It is not a requirement that applicants are based in a School of Pharmacy or be a registered pharmacist. International applications are welcome.
Professor David Wright , 2013 Conference Academic Chair comments:
“This prestigious international award recognises significant and outstanding contributions made to the world of pharmacy practice by mid-career academic pharmacists. Generously supported by Pharmacy Research UK, I would strongly encourage pharmacy practice researchers who are already making a significant impact and have the potential to become a recognised leader in their field to apply for this award.”
The 2012 award went to Dr Catriona Matheson, Senior Research Fellow at the Centre of Academic Primary Care, University of Aberdeen for her work on the role of healthcare professionals in drug misuse management. She delivered a plenary lecture entitled Drug misuse treatment and services: pharmacy and beyond.
On receiving the award Dr Matheson reflected:
“I’m very honoured to have received this research award as it endorses my commitment to developing this particular area of research. My lecture recognised how pharmacy as a profession has taken on this very difficult client group where other health professionals have been reluctant. I have witnessed, through my research, how community pharmacy has embraced this patient group and is now providing effective services that help drug users engage with treatment and as a consequence reduce the associated harm.”
The closing date for applications is 5pm on the 23rd April 2013. Applications should be submitted to events@rpharms.com
